SUPPORT MY lIFESAVING hEART RESEARCH
In keeping with tradition, I am pleased to share with you my annual holiday message. I’m joining the San Diego community to bring joy to kids this holiday season by raising money for my heart research.
Following up on our four papers published on our research in congenital heart disease, including in the prestigious journals Circulation Research and Human Molecular Genetics, we continue to study the ETS1 gene (the Jacobsen syndrome “heart gene”) and are gaining more new and exciting insights into how this gene causes congenital heart defects.
We have recent evidence that a second gene related to ETS1, FLI1, functions with ETS1 to regulate the development of the heart. Our current work is aimed at understanding how these two genes function together, and how loss of the function of one or both genes can cause different types of congenital heart defects including hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), the most common cause of death in all infants born with congenital heart disease. These studies are yielding unprecedented insights into the pathogenesis of HLHS, which should lead to improved therapies and even the possibility of prevention.
These papers and our ongoing studies are the culmination of many years of research and wouldn’t have been possible without your past support. Your gift helps to ensure the best care is available for our patients alongside leading-edge research found only here at Rady Children’s.
Please consider making a donation this year to help further my research efforts. Every dollar helps. As always, 100% of your donation goes directly to support my research, and there is zero overhead. I am eternally grateful for your continued support.
From my family to yours, we wish you happy holidays, and all the best for a healthy, happy, peaceful, and prosperous 2025!
Warmest Regards,
Paul Grossfeld, MD
